Bob Norton, Candidate for Gainesville City Council

I am seeking a seat on the Gainesville City Council because I believe deeply in preserving and strengthening the community that has shaped my entire life. As a lifelong resident of Hall County and long time resident of the City of Gainesville, I have seen firsthand the values, traditions, and sense of unity that make our city such a special place to call home.

My business career, beginning after graduating from Gainesville High School then earning a degree in Industrial Management from Georgia Tech, has kept me rooted here. As a third generation local business owner of the Norton Agency and now serving as Executive Chairman of Legacy Risk Solutions—an an insurance operation serving six states and employing more than 650 people—I’ve built a leadership style grounded in responsibility, fiscal discipline, and long term vision. Those same principles guide my approach to public service.
Gainesville is thriving, vibrant, and growing quickly—but that growth comes with challenges. Our infrastructure, public services, and community resources must keep pace with the demands placed on them. I believe strongly that taxpayer dollars should be directed toward true needs, not wants, and that every decision should be evaluated through the lens of sustainability, value, and common sense. As a popular recreational hub welcoming millions of visitors, Gainesville cannot rely solely on its property owners to shoulder the costs of maintaining and enhancing city infrastructure.

My goal is simple: to be a voice of reason. I am not running to “right wrongs” or pursue an agenda of upheaval. Instead, I am running to ensure that as we grow, we protect the core values, quality of life, and sense of community that have defined Gainesville for generations. My experience leading large teams, managing budgets, and guiding strategic decisions will help me contribute a steady, thoughtful perspective on the council.

I am committed to safeguarding what makes Gainesville great while helping shape a future that the next generation will be proud to inherit. Our young people deserve a community they will want to return to—and I am committed to helping build that future.
